NEW START!

Hello world! Here we go again. I am restarting my blog, planning new content, hoping to provide something interesting, informative, encouraging, and occassionally inspirational. I want to regularly offer things that feed your Mind, your Body, your Spirit, and your Soul. I have been given a new start in life in many aspects: new marriage, new home, more great kids, new job search (yes, even that is a new start!) and I want to share my experience with you. I welcome feedback and suggestions.

WHY ALL THE INDIA STUFF?

A few years back the company I worked for opted to off-shore many of our jobs to India. Fortunately mine was not one of them. In doing so they needed a group to go to India, specifically Bengalaru (Bangalore), to train a group of people. I was asked initally to go for six weeks but circumstances worked out where I was there for 13 weeks in two trips. Prior to this trip, I had only been to Toronto Canada so this was to be quite a new adventure for me. While I do not generally like the idea of off-shoring, I was given a chance to travel and was determined to do my best. I did not know when I left the US in April 2006 that I was beginning a life-changing journey. India is a wild ride of blazing Technicolor and surround sound that will either drive you mad or break, then heal, your heart in a profound way. I experienced the latter. There is much more to come on India but for now the important thing is the kids. Between trips in the summer of 2006 I was guided to World Vision. Rupadevi

Rupadevi lives with her parents and 1 sister. Her parents struggle to provide for the family. Her father is an agriculture worker and her mother is an agriculture laborer. Despite their efforts it is difficult to meet the family's needs.

Rupadevi is growing up in a poor community in India located in the state of Andra Pradesh. Homes are made of mud-plastered wood with thatched roofs and dirt floors. A typical family diet consists of rice, vegetables, cereals and beans. The climate is very warm and humid, with temperatures as low as 60 degrees and highs in the 90s. The terrain is mostly flat with forests and grasses.

Rupadevi is in primary school and she enjoys studying the native language. She helps at home by carrying water. She likes to play outside. She is in satisfactory health.

Ashish

Ashish lives with his parents and 1 sister. His parents struggle to provide for the family. His father is an agriculture worker and his mother takes care of the household. Despite their efforts it is difficult to meet the family's needs.

Ashish is growing up in a poor rural community. Typical homes are made of bamboo with tile or thatched roofs. Wheat bread, rice, vegetables, chicken and meat are staples of the local diet. Temperatures range from annual lows in the 70s during November to highs sometimes above 115 degrees in May. The community is located on hilly terrain with forests nearby.

Ashish is in primary school and he enjoys drama. He helps at home by carrying water. He likes to play cricket. He is in satisfactory health.

My sponsorship commitment helps provide Rupadevi and Ashish and their communities with clean water, education, improved health care and hygiene and regular medical checkups. In addition, my support provides agricultural training to improve crop yields and increase family income.
